The Primary Care Office (PCO) was established in September 2010 under the Department of Health to support the Food and Health Bureau in the implementation of strategies to enhance primary care. Major initiatives under Primary Care Office include the following:
- To develop and promulgate the reference frameworks for primary care settings;
- To establish and maintain the Primary Care Directory;
- To enhance public understanding and awareness of the importance of primary care and family doctor concept through various publicity channels (e.g. production of television drama and Announcement in the Public Interest, and publicity through internet platforms);
- To support the Food and Health Bureau to explore community-based primary care services (such as community health centres and district health centre pilot project).
