The Primary Care Office was established in September 2010 under the Department of Health to support the Food and Health Bureau in the implementation of strategies to enhance primary care. The major initiatives under the Primary Care Office include the following:
- To develop and promulgate the reference frameworks for primary care settings;
- To establish and maintain the Primary Care Directory;
- To enhance public awareness of the importance of primary care and family doctor concept through various publicity channels and collaboration with community partners;
- To provide professional support to the Food and Health Bureau in primary healthcare development (such as community health centres and district health centre pilot project).
